Full circle

My mom and I, 51 and 82

The plight of women. We go through our first period as pre teens. We’re insecure at that point, hyper aware of what people think, our physical appearance can seem like everything. Then we get older and own who we are. We’re good. Then perimenopause. It’s like a second right of passage. We spent years facilitating success, spent years realizing our looks are not connected to our sense of self. All of a sudden, hot flashes, weight gain, so many other things that make us feel like we’re not attractive. We shouldn’t still feel like our worth is connected to our looks but we do. Because we were raised to believe that. We’re reduced again to a society that thinks women’s worth is connected to how men see us. In puberty we’re girls becoming women. In perimenopause we’re women becoming older women. Older women are our mothers and grandmothers. I can’t think of anything more special.

For money, I’m what you call a banquet captain. That means I’m in charge of timing and staff at special events, weddings, benefits, movie premiere parties...ect. I’m also a filmmaker and freelance writer. I’m owned by two cats, Samantha and Harrison Chase who reluctantly allow me to travel, something I’m made to do.
