My mom was born in 1942. She’s part of the “silent” generation.
She’s the youngest of three.
Her older sister died in her sleep.
Her older brother is still here.
I wonder what she was like back in the day.
I imagine she was a rockstar.
Opinionated. Direct. As much as a silent generation baby could be.
I know that whenever my mom disagreed with my father, she held her own.
My brother and I never knew who was dominant.
It could’ve been either one.
But, as far as we were concerned, “ask your mother” was the common thread.
I’m so lucky to have had the parents I had.
As Gen X, I’ve seen it all.
I’ve brought myself home, consoled myself , been my own cheerleader, and cried on my mom’s shoulder.
Also cried on my dad’s shoulder when mom wasn’t available.
I’m lucky to have had that closeness.
Without any distractions like the internet.
Somehow we’ll make our way back, I hope.
